PARK CITY, Utah — The 5th annual Garlic Mustard Games start May 24. Garlic Mustard is an invasive species listed as a noxious weed on the state’s list. It outcompetes native vegetation, degrades soil quality, harms native pollinators, increases wildfire risk and diminishes overall forest resiliency. The Summit Cooperative Weed Management Area (CWMA) is actively battling it using creative methods. The younger the garlic mustard is, the easier it is to pull.
PCHS Miners boys soccer advance through state playoffs

PARK CITY, Utah — On Friday, the Park City High School Miners boys soccer team beat the Mountain Crest Mustangs from Nephi 3 to 1 at home on Dozier Field. The Miners eliminated the Mustangs and advanced through the Utah state playoff tournament. The weather was mostly sunny, the polar opposite of the freezing temperatures the Miners played in earlier that week. In 100% precipitation, they also won that home game 3-1 against Tooele.

PARK CITY, Utah — Not only was Friday the last time the PCHS Varsity Baseball Miners played on their home field, but it was also the last time any team will play there, as the field will undergo transformative construction this summer, with the sport relocating to a brand-new facility next year. The Varsity Baseball Miners team is advancing in the playoffs, which will be hosted in St. George.

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — USA Luge Slider Search, the official nationwide athlete recruitment tour of USA Luge, tailor made for athletes ages 10-13, is making a rare stop in Utah. Athletes who progress through the team development ladder have hopes of one-day becoming members of the National and Olympic Luge Teams. The Salt Lake City dates are May 17, 18. Near the University of Utah Campus, the location is on Colorow Road between Colorow Drive and Huntsman Way.
Dainton finishes final competition in first place

PARK CITY, Utah—Park City High School senior Avery Dainton won first place in her solo dance competition in St. George in April. This was the final competition of her high school athletic career, which also included cheerleading. She and the Miners cheer squad cheered for football, basketball and hockey this year traveling to away games in Salt Lake, Tooele, and Provo.

PARK CITY, Utah — Park City High School alumna Macey Schomaker announced on April 30 that while she’s thrilled to begin medical school at BYU, her competitive luge career has come to an end. “I’ve dreamed of becoming a radiologist or a radiation oncologist since I was in elementary school, and that dream is now in closer reach. This was always my path, but now I get to focus exclusively on my education instead of dividing myself between two passions,” Schomaker said on social media.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee announced on Tuesday the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Hall of Fame, Class of 2025, including the 2010 Four-Man Bobsled Team comprised of Steven Holcomb, Justin Olsen, Steve Mesler, and Curt Tomasevicz. Team Night Train, the 2010 U.S. four-man bobsled team, made history at the Olympic Winter Games Vancouver 2010 by winning gold and ending a 62-year drought in the event, Team USA’s first Olympic title since 1948.

PARK CITY, Utah — Saturday was the first day for the first residents to move into a first-of-its-kind, accessible house opened by nonprofit Bridge 21 for the neurodiverse community. The organization strives to provide a place and space in the world for people who lose services when they turn 21 years old by bridging their lives into a meaningful adulthood. Four young adults proudly call their single-family house “home” after holding a community open house on Wednesday and then moving in.

The Park City Center for Advanced Professional Studies (PCCAPS) educates students toward readiness for career success in many industries, including medical, fire, and physical therapy. In doing so, a win-win-win study structure partnership is created.
