William “Taylor” Wirthlin sat criss-crossed on a traditional Japanese floor mat with a chilled glass bottle of Coca-Cola and a metal tray of vibrant orange and yellow ink beside him. All six-foot-something of him folded over, ink covering every available space on both arms, and chunky clear framed glasses resting on the bridge of his nose. He was wearing loose-fitting nylon pants that zipped off into shorts with a faded pair of leather loafers.

As the November 5 presidential election approaches, students are preparing to voice their political opinions at the polls. A group of UWO students were asked a few questions about the most important matters that will be reflected in the candidate they vote for, why young peoples’ votes matter and what it means to be a member of their political party. Cru, formerly known as the Campus Crusade for Chris, is an organization that encourages students to grow their faith in God while navigating next steps in life. Students are taught to connect to their faith in ways that go beyond the traditional views of religion. Cru is an open-arms community for students to develop a sense of purpose, belonging and spirituality. Globally, there are 6,306 campus ministries according to Cru’s website.

UW system President Jay Rothman suggested that UW universities “shift away” from liberal arts programs, particularly at campuses with low-income students, in an effort to steer students toward more career-specific paths, according to emails obtained by The Daily Cardinal. Rothman has since taken to X to defend his statements, writing that he has “not asked our universities to move away from liberal arts programs,” and adding that he is a “product of the liberal arts” himself.
