The defendant has been identified as Christina Thagard, 40, a former Marion County Sheriff's Office deputy. A 36-year-old motorcyclist died after colliding with a pickup truck making a U-turn in Summerfield, Florida. The accident occurred at the intersection of County Road 42 and Southeast 89th Terrace shortly after 3 p.m. on April 30. The motorcyclist was transported to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. A two-vehicle crash in southeast Marion County on April 30 killed one person.

Raynel Fabian Garay-Diaz was sentenced to six years in prison and four years probation for DUI manslaughter and other charges. Garay-Diaz, driving intoxicated with no headlights, caused a multi-vehicle crash on I-75 that killed 20-year-old Andrew Bishop. Bishop's family and friends gave emotional statements about their loss and the impact of the crash. Garay-Diaz pleaded guilty and expressed remorse for his actions.
