"We avoided a lot of summer-like heat in May," Corey Davis, North Carolina Assistant State Climatologist, said. Davis said by early June, the heat will be right on time. "Looking ahead for the rest of the season, it is projected to be above normal temperatures overall," Davis said.

All WNC counties expect moderate air quality conditions on Saturday May 31st. If you are sensitive to smoke, limit your time outside this weekend. Hazy skies are possible. Sunrises and sunsets will look redder as the smoke passes. According to the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre, there were 186 active fires in Canada on Saturday morning.
