That’s a very interesting option for SJ, especially if Schaefer is off the board but when was the last time a team actually traded a top 3 pick? That always feels more like a “if you’re willing to overpay for this pick we won’t stop you” kind of message.

This puts San Jose in a really interesting spot. Schaefer at 1OA seemed like the perfect pick to round out their prospect pool. They’ll still get a premier prospect in Misa, Hagens, Desnoyers or Frondell, but it would sting to miss out on Schaefer.

Interesting perspective from Jon as usual, specifically regarding Luc & Blake’s working relationship. It will be very interesting to monitor the relationship between Luc and whoever the new GM is and how much Luc influences on-ice decisions.

Shockingly Mikko Rantanen is really, really good at hockey and is worth the heavy acquisition cost he commanded.

I’m in right about the same spot with Blake/Hiller. I think you only replace Hiller if a new GM comes in and wants his own coach or you think you can get someone like David Carle. Even with Blake making some good moves recently, you just can’t award failure like that.

If this is the case, I’m not trying to downplay the valid anger/dissapointment fans will have with this decision, but it isn’t surprising. Hiller posted a 105pt season and all of Blake’s recent moves were a success. You can question ownerships ambition but they’re consistent.

You have to figure out what you think this team is before deciding on FA signings. If you think you’re a contender still, you have to retain Gavrikov and I’m assuming that’s what will happen. I wouldn’t bring Kuzmenko back, he’s good but they needed a bigger upgrade up front.

This is easily the worst of the 4 losses against EDM for the Kings, at least they went down fighting in Game 6. Kings have a lot of tough decisions to make off-ice this summer.
