BROCKTON — He was two years into his first teaching job, but Boston Public Schools social studies educator Dontae Mckeiver was frustrated and deflated. As a second-year educator at Excel High School, Mckeiver said he wasn’t getting essential training in student behavior management or addressing students’ social and emotional needs. He wanted more professional development or coaching but didn’t have tenured staff to turn to. And often, many of his colleagues were chronically absent from school.

CAMBRIDGE - About 50 public school students joined students from Harvard University to perform a medley of dance and music Friday night on the campus. The performance was led by CityStep, a dance program for elementary and middle school-aged students founded 41 years ago on Harvard’s campus. CityStep is an after-school program that pairs kids with college students in a year-long dance curriculum that culminates each spring with a performance.
