Aug. 1-A heavy police presence by the Midland County Sheriff's Office and the Midland Police Department SWAT teams had local residents alarmed Thursday morning. According to a press statement, MCSO said that they conducted an operation involving multiple agencies at 1007 South Midkiff Road. "The operation's mission was to locate and arrest any trespassers found on the property," said an MCSO public information officer.

Aug. 1-Today, the U.S. Department of Justice announced findings from an investigation into the Texas Juvenile Justice Department and says the TJJD is violating the U.S. Constitution, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). In the report, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) found that children within TJJD's facilities are often exposed to not only excessive physical force, but chemical force as well.

Jul. 25-The Sewell Family of Companies hosted a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday morning for a new automotive campus in Midland, located at the corner of Avalon Drive and Deauville Boulevard in west Midland. As part of the expansion of the new campus, Sewell will relocate its current businesses on Wall Street and Andrews Highway. The new campus will feature BMW, Cadillac, GMC and Buick facilities for sales, service and parts.

Jul. 22-Drivers in Midland may have noticed a recent traffic pattern change. Along Interstate 20, the Midkiff and Cotton Flat bridges are now substantially complete and were opened July 13. TxDOT officials said that interstate traffic will pass over the Midkiff Road and Cotton Flat Road on the new bridges. Midkiff Road at I-20 is open in both directions, while Cotton Flat Road will have one lane in each direction open no later than Friday, July 26.
