President Donald Trump has endorsed Republican Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, backing a close ally who is running for reelection in November. "Bruce is MAGA all the way, and has been with us from the very beginning," Trump posted Tuesday night on his social media site Truth Social. "Bruce Blakeman has my Complete and Total Endorsement for Re-Election — HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!"Blakeman thanked Trump for the endorsement in a statement.

The vast majority of Nassau County homeowners who challenged their property assessments won settlements — 80% last year, compared with nearly 70% the year before — thereby shifting the tax burden to remaining taxpayers, according to data analyzed by Newsday. Nearly 60% of Nassau homeowners last year — about 227,000 — filed a "grievance,” a formal appeal of their property assessment, according to data from Nassau’s Assessment Review Commission obtained by Newsday through a public records request.

About 80 firefighters responded to a Syosset group home that broke out into flames on Sunday. Just after 4 p.m., a fire alarm on the second floor of the three-story building on the MercyFirst campus on Convent Road triggered a 911 call to the Syosset Fire Department, according to officials. No one was in the building at the time. Emergency responders contained the fire, which was limited to a single room, within 30 minutes, and no one was injured.
