Margaret Reid, 54, Leonorah Ward, 22, Indigo Rumbelow, 30, and Daniel Knorr, 22, were arrested as they were about to mount their protest. Armed with heavy duty bolt cutters, angle grinders, glue and sand, they planned to cut their way through the metal fencing at the southern end of the airport and glue themselves to the taxiway. But police became aware of their plot and they were arrested on their way to the airport in the early hours of August 5, last year.

West Kirby rescue team launched a lifeboat after reports that a a 14ft inflatable boat had a fouled propeller. A man was reported to be in trouble somewhere between Parkgate and Heswall, shortly after 10pm on Saturday.

A yellow warning has been issued across the north west, with thundery downpours potentially leading to some flooding. The warning will come into effect from 12 noon on Monday and will remain in place until 10pm in tomorrow evening.
