BERLIN — Remedial work will get underway this summer to excavate approximately 30 tons of contaminated soils from the 41-acre Chlor-Alkali Super Fund property. Located on the east bank of the Androscoggin River, the site formerly housed a chemical plant that was operated by Brown Company from the late 1890s through the mid-1960s. The plant provided chlorine and sodium hydroxide for the manufacture of bleached pulp and paper. kAm}]w] s6A2CE>6?E @7 t?G:C@?>6?E2= $6CG:46D !C@;64E |2?286C qC:2? %9@C?E@?

It would also set a 20-year limit on the designation.
