Northern Biogas official Robert McHale appeared before both the Coos County and Berlin planning boards in recent weeks to conduct conceptual reviews of the project. He said his company’s subsidiary, Mt. Carberry Project, LLC, will construct the facility on land owned by the district and leased to the company. The natural gas facility, in the unincorporated place of Success, will process up to 2,500 cubic feet per minute of landfill gas from the landfill.

CONNELL PHOTO)BERLIN — Members of the city council reviewed the “first amended and restated” payment in lieu of taxes plan between the city, Berlin Station and its affiliate, Burgess BioPower LLC, an amount totaling $2,435,000. The draft agreement, not yet fully finalized, was discussed in nonpublic session during the council’s Jan. 21 work session. A copy of the document was given to the Sun after the meeting.

BERLIN — Is the work of Berlin police patrolling the border with Canada negatively affecting local police work? Berlin Police Chief Dan Buteau said no in a discussion with city officials on Monday. A good sit-down talk that could lead to other discussions on city departmental workings began during Monday night’s Berlin City Council work session between Buteau, the council, City Manager Phillip L. Warren Jr. and members of the Berlin Police Commission.

(COURTESY PHOTO)BERLIN — Arguing the city’s motion is premature as well as factually incorrect, Burgess BioPower is asking the U.S. Bankruptcy Court of Delaware to reject Berlin’s request that it immediately pay $1.39 million in overdue property taxes. The city filed a motion with the court last month, asking it to label the unpaid taxes a priority and order immediate payment.

BERLIN — The city is waiting to learn if its request to form a North Country mutual aid district will be approved by the state fire marshal and allow for regional sharing of resources. At its July 15 work session, City Manager Phillip L. Warren Jr. spoke about Berlin Fire Department Chief James “Jay” Watkins' petition to N.H. State Fire Marshal Sean Toomey. Warren said he supports Watkin’s idea of forming a North Country mutual aid district separate from a Grafton County district.
