Between December 2024 and February 2025, 3,773 people donated at the centre in south London, providing more than 3,000 units of blood. Each unit can save up to three lives.

A soup kitchen in south London, which says it is a "lifeline" to the community, may be forced to close its hub. Peckham Soup Kitchen was established in 2021 to help people struggling to afford food and basic essentials. It has been based in an unused unit in the Aylesham Shopping centre on Rye Lane since 2023, but now needs to move by next week because the owners of the unit need to redevelop it.

Demolition work has started on a block of flats in east London which caught fire leaving more than 80 people homeless. The London Fire Brigade (LFB) rescued at least 20 people from Spectrum House on Freshwater Road, Dagenham during a fire on 26 August. A spokesperson for Barking and Dagenham Council said the building owners had decided to demolish the block after surveyor reports confirmed the building was unsafe. AdvertisementBuilding owner Arinium Holdings Limited has refused to comment.
