The Tennessee Army National Guard has deployed two Black Hawk helicopters to Polk County to support firefighters battling a blaze near the North Carolina border. Two helicopters from Knoxville's 1-230th Assault Helicopter Battalion departed for Polk County between 7:30 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. Tuesday from McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base to combat wildfires just southeast of Turtletown, military officials said in a news release.

JASPER, Tenn. – Plans for an expansion at the jail in Marion County dissolved in 2020 when the pandemic struck and inmates were released to create social-distancing room. Now, a $6 million expansion is ready to begin. Wednesday, jail administrator Sgt. Tammy McAlpin counted 28 women housed in the jail's female pod. The pod is certified by the state to hold 18 women, Sheriff Ronnie "Bo" Burnett said during a tour of the jail in the Marion County Justice Center.
