When I watched Arcane‘s first season, I felt it was a masterpiece, a complete success in terms of story, themes, music and character building. It was difficult for me to imagine it away from the pantheon of animated giants like Toy Storyand Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

hello world!It’s been a quarter of a century since the original Gladiator hit cinema screens. The film, directed by Ridley Scott, achieved massive critical acclaim and earned nearly every award you could think of. It’s a cinematic classic (that I only watched recently. Plz don’t shoot me). But that story had a definitive end, with Maximus (Russel Crowe) and Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) dead.

hello world!Fighting games have a long history of characters that can be considered too powerful. Some are so powerful that their power seems far past the intended character balance. Marvel vs Capcom 2 is one of the best examples where 10% of the characters are so above the rest of the roster that they can’t hold a candle in a professional setting.

Luigi, Mario’s taller brother, is often seen as just that, Mario’s taller brother. Usually relegated to spin-off titles and the character you pick when your older sibling picks Mario (to be fair, I’m more of a Toad man myself). But over the last few Nintendo consoles, that has changed. Not only has he been a big part of the Mario & Luigi series, but he’s also received a trilogy of his own games, Luigi’s Mansion.

Trading card games (TCGs) have seen a boom in popularity in recent years. People have loved collecting pieces of cardboard with cool art and then playing games using those cards. Everything about TCGs scratches that little itch in my brain that makes me want to keep buying more (even when I probably shouldn’t). And because all you need to create a TCG is a good idea and some interesting art, loads of Kickstarter campaigns and indie game studios have thrown their hat into the TCG market.

I first heard about Wukong in 2022. It was one of those games where a trailer drops and is able to generate immediate excitement. The graphics looked crisp, the gameplay looked similar to From Software’s popular Dark Souls series, and it was based on a story that we in the West scarcely have a chance to absorb in video game form. Possibly the most famous figure in Buddhist myth: Sun Wukong. The Monkey King that ascended to heaven and was inevitably cast out.

Over the past few weeks, thousands of others and I have been delving into the newest season of the phenomenon, Fortnite. Looking through its menus on which game type to play, I discovered one I haven’t attempted yet: the Epic Games and Harmonix rhythm game mode released in 2023, Fortnite Festival. After doing some quick research and finding out that most older gaming guitars are compatible, I went rummaging through my closet to dust off my old 2015 Rock Band 4 guitar.

I don’t know about you, but when I play Pokémon, I’m ready to explore a new region, made from real world inspirations, an inspired fantasy world sprouts forth with charm and significance, allowing anyone to begin an adventure in a larger than life fantasy.. PokeRogue says no; you just fight an endless tide of monsters and beef yourself up bit by bit until you either faint or beat up the entire universe.
