Melfort native Zac Somers had a hat trick to lift the Mustangs over the Edmundston Blizzard by a score of 5-3. “Gotta give credit to Edmundston, they played with a lot of pace and jam, and we didn’t have a good first period. In the second and third, though, we found a way, and that’s the biggest thing.

By Getting back to how we play May 10, 2025 | 11:13 AM The Melfort Mustangs are back in action today for their second of four round-robin games at this year’s Centennial Cup. Melfort dropped their opening game against the host Calgary Canucks on Thursday by a score of 3-1. Now, they’ll face the Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL) champion Edmundston Blizzard, with puck drop set for 12 p.m. on Saturday.

The two are no strangers to the Max Bell Centre either, as many of their minor hockey games were held in the building. Kaleb Binner even made his home here during his last year of minor hockey as a Calgary Northstar.

Melfort fell 3-1 to the host Calgary Canucks, despite scoring just over three minutes into the game. “I’ll tell you what, you can’t win a game when you play half a game, that’s just a fact. The drive, the want and the compete just weren’t there tonight,” said assistant coach Tye Scherger postgame.
