Residents of parts of Los Angeles County on Sunday afternoon felt a minor earthquake centered west of Malibu, California. Preliminary estimates showed that the quake had a magnitude of 4.1, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Authorities said they had no reports of any injuries or damage in the immediate aftermath of the quake. The Los Angeles Fire Department said the earthquake was not strong enough to have triggered an official earthquake response.

Firefighters were working to contain a large blaze that broke out at an apartment building in the Bronx early Friday, injuring at least seven people and displacing many others, the Fire Department said. About 250 firefighters and emergency medical responders rushed to the six-story residential building on Wallace Avenue near Arnow Avenue after a fire was reported just before 2 a.m., the Fire Department said. The blaze on the top floor was elevated to a five-alarm fire about an hour later, it said.
