Luray Caverns is one of Virginia's most treasured natural wonders. It's the largest cavern in the Eastern U.S., covering 64 acres and offering 1.5 miles of paved walkways. Some of the rooms are cathedral-sized, and the walkways are illuminated, guiding you through subterranean spaces with unearthly rock formations. It's estimated that some of the oldest of these bizarrely shaped rocks date back seven million years.

Maine is one of the first states I explored as a kid, taking several bus tours there with my mother, and it's one of the ones I'm most excited to return to as I tour the Northeast. It has astonishing natural sites, including the world-famous Acadia National Park. However, I find the best home base for a trip to Maine is the state's largest city, Portland.

At first glance, Georgia and New York may not have a lot in common. But if you know where to look for it, you'll find an authentic slice of the Empire State hiding in Atlanta. Glide Pizza has roots in Brooklyn; owner Rob Birdsong spent over a decade visiting New York's iconic slice shops before returning to his home state to raise a family. He brought back his passion for New York slices with him, ultimately creating his own shop that would deliver the quick convenience of this big-city staple.

Watch Hill, Rhode Island, first caught my attention as a quieter, more affordable alternative to Nantucket. The more I looked into it, the more it seemed like a hidden gem. It has all the coastal charm you’d expect from a New England getaway: beautiful beaches, historic architecture, and plenty of fresh seafood, but without the hefty price tag or summer crowds. It’s the kind of coastal town that quietly impresses, and honestly, it’s moved straight to the top of my travel list because of this.

Aside from New Jersey and my second home, New York, Pennsylvania is the state I spend the most time in. It's the largest state in the region, home to several major cities, and might just be one of the best food states in the country thanks to its diversity and large Amish population. As an amusement park fan, I believe it's also one of the best coaster states in the country—certainly the best in the region.
