Coach Shane Kirchoff and the Maquoketa Valley boys’ cross country team had a solid 2023 season which was highlighted by both a Tri-Rivers Conference and Class 1A State-Qualifying Meet title. “Overall, the boys’ team had an outstanding season. Coming into the year the boys had some high goals that they wanted to achieve. It was a season of growth for the Maquoketa Valley girls’ cross country team under first-year coach Shane Kirchoff. With just five girls the Wildcats were focused on individual improvements and successes. “I’m very pleased with the season the girls’ team had,” Kirchoff said. “It was difficult to only have five members on the team. Matthew Schaul left it all on the course. The Maquoketa Valley junior recorded his second-best time of the year at the Class 1A Boys’ State Cross County Meet at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge, Oct. 27. Schaul earned a seventh-place medal with his time of 16:16. Maquoketa Valley’s Taryn Burbridge raced her way to a medal and a new Maquoketa Valley school record at the Class 1A Girls’ State Cross Country Meet at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge, Oct. 27.
