As expected, Monday brought wet weather to the Portland area. But in certain spots, it was a lot more than a shower around 4:30 p.m.A trained weather volunteer reported to the National Weather Service that a half inch of rain fell in Oregon City in just 30 minutes around the time many people were beginning their evening commutes. Another person reported dime-size hail in the Multnomah Village area of Southwest Portland.

A shooting involving a preschool security guard in Southwest Portland happened around 11:50 a.m. Thursday, police said. No children were harmed. A man was injured, however, police said. Police said the shooting happened at or near a preschool in the 6600 block of Southwest Capitol Highway. Russell Sadler, a left-of-center news commentator in Oregon for 30 years, died April 20 in Washington. Born in Ohio, Sadler told The Oregonian in 2001 that he was drawn to Oregon as a young man after reading a book about Richard Neuberger, an accomplished Portland journalist who went on to become a U.S. Senator. After graduating from the University of Oregon with a degree in journalism, Sadler covered the Oregon Legislature as a reporter, including during the heyday of former Gov. Tom McCall.

A person posing as a city of Portland vendor persuaded a city employee to send them a link allowing them to redirect $6.7 million meant for a vendor to them, a lawsuit filed in New York this month says. The suit, first reported by law.com, was confirmed by a city spokesperson Thursday. “The City of Portland identified an incident involving fraud that targeted City funds,“ said spokesperson Carrie Belding.
