Today is my last official day as editor-in-chief of The Pitt News. Just like that, the four years I’ve spent at this newspaper and in college have come to an end. While I was originally going to use this senior column to just recount my time at The Pitt News, I feel as though there’s a few things I must say first.

Amid continued tensions and violence in Gaza and Israel, students at the University of Pittsburgh organized a sit-in outside of the Cathedral of Learning on Tuesday. “We're just here in solidarity with Palestinians at a time where they don't have universities, to use our university privilege to make something,” said Samuel Weiner, a master’s student in Pitt’s teaching department.

For a large portion of the school year, the weather in Pittsburgh is often moody. One day flurries of snow were accumulating in the quad, and the next day, the Cathedral basked in the 60-degree sunshine. According to psychology professor Dr. Diana Leyva, the type of weather a place is experiencing has a significant impact on students’ work rates. “We know that there is a positive association between the temperature and mood,” Leyva said.

As the sunshine started permeating Pitt’s campus, so did the aroma of Ethel’s. Nestled in the walkway between Lawrence, Posvar and Hillman, Ethel’s stands out as the latest addition to Pitt Eats’ on-campus dining offerings. Opening its windows on March 20, the food truck serves breakfast and brunch options from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays, providing quick breakfast bites in the heart of campus. The 1950s-style dining addition comes with a backstory deeply rooted in history.
