There is a push underway to add lifesaving whole blood resuscitation emergency services in Teller County. “We hope to have the program in place by the beginning of the summer,” said Teller County EMS Medical Director, Dr. Sean Keenan. It is a program like the one started a year ago in Colorado Springs, where whole blood provided by UCHealth is carried by firefighters to give to patients who are losing blood fast at emergency scenes.

The title for skill sharpening at Colorado Springs Fire Department is 'Spring Drill.'“This year's focus is on attacking grass fires safely and efficiently,” said Colorado Springs Fire Department Lieutenant (Lt.) Paul Guivens. With this type of fire, the large fire engines are too big and heavy to go off road.

PUEBLO — Walleye in Lake Pueblo are getting some reproductive help this week from Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW). “They spawn at Pueblo, early March through mid-April, when the water temps are between 38 and 45 degrees,” said CPW Aquatic Biologist, Carrie Tucker, “So it has to happen at this time of year. If we're too early, they're not ready, and if we're too late, they're already done.”CPW teams put out nets along rocky areas of the shore where the fish gather to spawn.

COLORADO SPRINGS — The risk of wildfires in the Pikes Peak Region, especially grassfires, continues with warm dry conditions. When a fire breaks out crews with Colorado Springs Fire Department now get a real-time assist from their Special Operations unit flying a drone over the fire. “We've found new ways to use it. We found more effective ways and more efficient ways to use the drone,” said Lieutenant Drew Cahill with CSFD Special Operations.
