2 1/1 A contract has been awarded for the latest phase of the £1.95 million restoration of Blackburn Town Hall. The work to undertake urgent specialist rendering repairs to the internal courtyard of the Grade II heritage-listed building has been given to Burnley-based Craftsman Restoration Ltd (UKR). Earlier this year, it was revealed previous conservation work on the inner quadrangle had been substandard.

The refusal of the conversion of a mid-terrace family house into a small children’s home by an East Lancashire local authority has been quashed by a government inspector. In September last year Hyndburn Council’s planning committee overturned an officer’s recommendation to approve the application to turn 463 Whalley Road, Clayton-le-Moors, into a care home for two youngsters.

Big political figures fell at the election hurdle including Hyndburn borough leader Munsif Dad and his deputy Noordad Aziz. Also defeated was Tory group leader on the borough council Zak Khan.
