The Lancashire Telegraph, which was previously known as the Lancashire Evening Telegraph, is a regional tabloid newspaper serving East Lancashire, England. It publishes two distinct editions daily: one for the areas of Blackburn with Darwen, Hyndburn, and Ribble Valley, and another for Burnley, Pendle, and Rossendale. The newspaper covers approximately 20 towns in the region, including Blackburn, Burnley, Accrington, Darwen, Nelson, Clitheroe, Colne, and Rawtenstall.

    Not exactly in East Lancashire but we’re sure that many Looking Back readers will recognise this landmark. This photo shows Southport Pier we think taken some time in the 1950s or early 1960s. If you can help date it please let us know. The second-longest pier in the country, it’s a testament to Victorian engineering, having opened in 1860. Over the decades the channel has silted up meaning that a large portion of the pier now crosses land rather than sea.

    The premise was a simple one - bring together some of the country’s leading jazz musicians with a love of Joni Mitchell to play songs from her own jazz period, notably the album Hejira and subsequent releases from the late 1970s. Two years down the line and Hejira, the name taken on by the seven-piece band, are playing around 50 gigs a year to sell out audiences around the country. On Saturday they will be at Clitheroe Grand, guests of the Ribble Valley Jazz and Blues Club.
