CO2 Lock Corp., a majority-owned subsidiary of FPX Nickel Corp., is set to launch a rare carbon capture and storage (CCS) pilot project in Northern British Columbia next year, marking it as the only such project currently planned in the region. The Sam Project, located approximately 50 kilometres southwest of Prince George and southeast of Vanderhoof, is an initiative focused on permanently storing carbon dioxide (CO2) through injection into a large ultramafic rock body.

The Nithi Mountain Wind Project, a joint venture between Stellat’en First Nation and Innergex, is one of nine wind-energy projects recently approved by the province of British Columbia as part of BC Hydro’s first competitive call for power in 15 years. These nine projects are expected to generate nearly 5,000 gigawatt hours (GWh) of electricity annually, enough to power approximately 500,000 homes, and will increase BC Hydro’s current power supply by 8 per cent.

A Fort St. James man has been fined $3,000 and placed on a nine-month probation order for hunting at night. In September 2021, Conservation Officers (COS) and RCMP responded to a Report All Poachers and Polluters (RAPP) complaint about night hunting in progress along Necoslie Forest Service Road, near Fort St. James. Officers located the suspect and vehicle in question.

The District of Vanderhoof recently stepped in to help a dog find a new home after it was found wandering the area without identification. A three-year-old husky/golden retriever mix was picked up by the district's Animal Control Officer. Without a collar or dog tag, the dog faced an uncertain future, as there was no way to identify its owner, Rod Holland, the district’s chief administrative officer said.

Lakes District and the Stuart Nechako area will see mild, dry weather through early December, with light snow possible later in the month, but no major cold outbreaks are expected.
