Student Council has resolved that the Rules of Council will be the same as they were at the end of Trinity Term, with the exception of meetings being held twice a term, down from four. This follows accusations of the SU Trustee Board acting unconstitutionally by changing the rules without the consultation of the Student Council.

Oxford’s first day of admission testing has led to distress amongst applicants. The paper for the English Literature Assessment Test (ELAT) was reportedly from the previous year and technical errors led to delays, provoking outrage on X, formerly known as Twitter. Last year, Oxford announced that they would no longer use Cambridge Admissions Assessment Testing for their testing, which is set to be discontinued in 2024.

Students alongside members of Extinction Rebellion (XR) Oxford gathered outside the Examination Schools to protest the University’s invitation to Equinor to set-up at its STEM Careers Fair. Protesters see the invitation as an endorsement, saying that it goes against the University’s sustainability commitments and targets for Net Zero.

CW: abortionThe ‘pro-life’ Students for Life society has once again been the cause for protests at the Student Union Freshers’ Fair. One protestor held up an “Abortion is a Human Right” sign in front of the stall, while two sabbatical officers – the VP Activities and Community and the VP UG Education and Access – joined in, holding up an SU infographic about abortions. In previous years there were similar protests, with various student societies criticizing the stand.
