Maara Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Kareke Mbiuki and his Chuka Igambang’ombe counterpart Patrick Munene have called on the government to have the compensation of snakebite victims in the country reinstated. Speaking during the commemoration of the International Snakebite Awareness Day (ISBAD) at Mwenjeu Primary School in Tharaka Nithi County, the two petitioned for legislation that will have the compensation restored following increased cases of disability and mortality.

Mt Kenya East is composed of Embu, Meru, Tharaka Nithi and Isiolo counties. The leaders who had attended the 6th Edition of the Ura Gate Cultural Festival in Tharaka Nithi solidified their unity, saying they have never been treated equally under the Mt. Kenya political wing.

Police reports and details indicate that the tragic Saturday night accident at Nithi Bridge, involving a matatu and a pickup, which claimed 12 lives, could have been avoided. According to Tharaka Nithi Police Commander Zachaeus Ng’eno, ten adults and two minors were travelling in the matatu from Kirirwa village in Nkubu, Meru County, to Rongai.
