Milwaukee's downtown skyline is quickly changing, with several new towers finding a home. 7Seventy7 arrived in 2018 on the corner of Mason and North Van Buren streets. A few blocks north is Ascent on Kilbourn Avenue, which came to market in 2022. Two years later came The Couture, a 44-floor luxury high-rise with sweeping views of Lake Michigan located at East Clybourn Street and Lincoln Memorial Drive. The newest: 333 Water, a 31-story luxury high-rise apartment in the Historic Third Ward.

Nestled on the corner of Garfield and MLK, this barbershop is just as historic as the street it sits on. Gaulien Smith, also known as Gee, started cutting hair at the age of 12. Now, Smith owns Gee's Clippers, a staple on Milwaukee's north side. Celebrating Black History Month, WISN 12 News' Blake Eason took a trip down memory lane with Smith after almost 30 years in business. "Thankful, you know, it's definitely been a ride," Smith said. These days, Gee's Clippers is much more than a barbershop.
