Airline passengers have given their tick of approval for new digital incoming passenger cards which have replaced the traditional paper copy of the declaration on some flights into Brisbane Airport. For the past five months, Brisbane Airport has been using digital forms for passengers flying from New Zealand to Brisbane. The trial has been deemed so successful the airport is now rolling it out to all Qanta international arrivals.

Looking like a hybrid drone, helicopter (with its propeller at the back) and boat, the “Alia” plane sat shiny and imposing on the Beta Technologies factory floor. If this is the future of aviation, it wasn’t as outrageously Jetsons-themed as my imagination had drawn it, but it looked curious enough to catch the eye and its sleek, modern lines were attractive. Jetstar’s recent wave of new routes continues, with the budget airline adding a direct service from Brisbane to Bangkok — the only airline to do so. JQ 65 flies three times a week on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday departing at 2.20pm and arriving in Bangkok at 7.30pm (local time). The return flight JQ 66 departs Bangkok on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 9.25pm arriving in Brisbane at 8.25am the following morning.

Virgin Australia’s first international airfares in five years have gone on sale, with the partnership with Qatar Airways now live. The first VA flights to Doha should take off in June 2025, pending final government approval. The competition watchdog has provided an initial approval, but a final decision by the Foreign Investment Review Board is pending. The flights will be on Qatar Airways planes and will have Qatar Airways crew onboard. The flights will have a VA flight number between 1 and 29.

Sydney Airport expects 5.8 million passengers between this weekend and Australia Day. Budget airline Jetstar has an expensive new toy, and it could be the next aircraft to take you on holiday. The company’s first A320neo has arrived in Australia after a three-day mission from the Airbus factory in Toulouse, France. A team of three people flew it from Toulouse to Muscat, then Kuala Lumpur and Melbourne where it touched down earlier this week.
