PHOENIX — One person is dead and another is hurt after a motorcycle was involved in an accident with another automobile on Saturday night. Phoenix police responded to a collision near 7th Street and Apollo Road around 7:30 p.m. According to authorities, upon their arrival, they found a motorcycle and a four-door vehicle involved in the collision. The operator of the motorcycle, 28-year-old Tristian Swain, was found on the roadway showing signs of trauma.

PHOENIX — An overturned semi-truck caused a traffic jam on South Mountain Freeway Loop 202 eastbound in the Ahwatukee area on Saturday morning. According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, the truck overturned near the Desert Foothills Parkway exit, blocking the right lanes. UPDATE: All lanes are now blocked as crews work to remove the vehicle from the scene.

The negative impact on the climate from passenger vehicles, which is considerable, could have dropped by more than 30% over the past decade if not for the world’s appetite for large cars, a new report from the Global Fuel Economy Initiative suggests. Sport utility vehicles, or SUVs, now account for more than half of all new car sales across the globe, the group said, and it’s not alone. The International Energy Agency, using a narrower definition of SUV, estimates they make up nearly half.

PHOENIX – Thanks to a grant awarded by the Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust, Sonoran University of Health Sciences has partnered with The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, to open a medical clinic at the charity’s shelter at Washington and 28th streets in Phoenix. The grant will support start-up costs to launch the clinic. During the project’s span, Sonoran University’s clinic will operate for 20 hours per week. This amounts to over 1,000 hours of services and over 2,000 patient visits.

PHOENIX – Authorities have canceled a Silver Alert after a man was found deceased on Friday near 123rd Avenue and Baseline Road. Lawrence Cooley, 91, was last seen near 91st Avenue and Union Hills Drive in Sun City at about 11 a.m. on Tuesday. A silver alert was then issued Wednesday. Cooley was driving a white 2018 Nissan Rogue, which was found partially submerged in the Gila River by the Gila River Police Department. Police found no signs of foul play.
