    PHOENIX — More than 3 tons of drugs were collected in Arizona in the latest National Drug Take Back Day, authorities said. Arizona’s 56 collection sites totaled 6,257 pounds of expired, unwanted or unused medications during the April 26 event, the Drug Enforcement Agency in a press release on Friday. Nationally, 620,321 pounds of prescription drugs were turned in for safe disposal at 4,590 collection sites.

    PHOENIX – A Buckeye man was ordered to pay over $200,000 as a settlement in a fix-and-flip real estate scheme, state regulators announced Thursday. Michael Candelario and his affiliated companies were ordered to pay $199,110 in restitution and an additional $55,000 in administrative penalties, according to the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC). Candelario was not licensed to offer and sell investments in the state.

    PHOENIX – The city of Tempe recently approved higher fines for violations of its nuisance and loud party regulations. The City Council adopted the new penalties along with other ordinance updates on May 1 after a series of meetings with the community. When the changes go into effect on June 1, the fines for first-time offenders will increase from $250 to $500. The fines for second offenses will grow from $1,000 to $1,500, and third-time offenders will pay up to $4,000, an increase from $1,500.

    PHOENIX – Two Arizona teenagers were arrested on federal charges this week in connection with a shooting during a high-speed car chase in Tucson last month, authorities said. A plain-clothes Tucson Police Department officer conducting operations in an unmarked vehicle near Stone Avenue and Fort Lowell Road observed a car traveling at a high rate of speed on April 20, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona.
