A bear put on quite a show for a family in Simsbury, Connecticut. The bear decided to have some fun on the family's backyard playscape. The bear climbed the ladder of the playscape and then took a ride down the slide to the family's delight. A second bear can be seen in the video lounging on the ground underneath the playscape, but didn't seem interested in joining in the fun.

DCF says it has no records on family of man held captive for 20 years

The Connecticut Department of Children and Families (DCF) said Thursday it has no records related to the family of a man who told police he was held captive inside a Waterbury home since the age of 11. He is now 32 years old. He was found in the home on Blake Street in Waterbury in February after emergency crews responded to a fire at the home. The man told first responders he set the fire in an attempt to escape. He weighed 68 pounds at the time he was found, according to police.
Eric Clapton to play show in Connecticut later this year

Legendary guitarist Eric Clapton is making Connecticut one of his stops on a limited tour of the U.S. in September. The three-time Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee will take the stage at Mohegan Sun Arena on Sept. 20, for the last date of the U.S. leg of the six-show tour, which also includes stops in Nashville, Cleveland, Philadelphia, Boston, and New York.

There is an online petition calling for Long Island Sound to be renamed. "America has long ignored the greatness of CONNECTICUT! Such as being the pizza capital of the WORLD!!!," the change.org petition begins. The author of the petition wants the body of water to be renamed the "Gulf of Connecticut."The author even took a shot at the place that has given the world Billy Joel, Jerry Seinfeld, and others.
Scottie Scheffler returning in June to defend Travelers Championship title

The world's No. 1 golfer, Scottie Scheffler, will be back at the Travelers Championship in June to defend his title. The two-time Masters winner outdueled Tom Kim on the first playoff hole to win the 2024 Travelers Championship. It was his sixth victory of the year, the most wins by a player in a single season since Arnold Palmer in 1962. The 2025 Travelers Championship will be the tournament's second time being designated as a Signiture Event on the PGA Tour, and third as an elevated event.

Beardsley Zoo increasing safety measures after bird flu detected in goose

A case of bird flu has been detected at the Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport, according to zoo officials. The Highly Pathogenic Avian Flu (HPAI) was confirmed in a Cotton Patch goose that was found on zoo grounds. Beardsley is adding increased safety measures on top of precautions that they had already been following after the detection of bird flu in other parts of Connecticut, zoo officials said.
CVS to close two pharmacies in Hartford by mid-March

CVS is closing two of its pharmacies in Hartford in the next month-and-a-half. The company will close the CVS pharmacy at 690 Wethersfield Avenue on February 21, according to a company spokesperson. The CVS pharmacy at 777 Main Street will close on March 11. The spokesperson said all prescriptions at the Wethersfield Avenue CVS will be transferred to the CVS Pharmacy at 908/910 Maple Avenue. Prescriptions from the Main Street location will be transferred to the CVS at 150 Washington Street.
12-year-old shot in Connecticut after hitting car with snowball: police

Officers responded to the area of Capitol Avenue and Park Terrace in Hartford around 7:15 p.m.They found the 12-year-old suffering from gunshot wounds. The boy's injuries were described as non-life-threatening by police. According to police, the 12-year-old, along with an 11-year-old, were playing with snow and throwing snowballs at cars. They hit a car, which circled the block, chased the kids, and someone in the vehicle shot the 12-year-old.
