Sister Grace is dying.                She was in the hospital and she was at the Mother House and now she is back on the street, on Carter Street, in a hospice bed in a living room where visitors crowd amidst the medical supplies and the sound of traffic passing by outside.

Trump is wrong about Veterans Day. Completely, offensively, disappointingly wrong. In the dark of the night, governing via social media, he decided to do away with the day Congress and the American people have set aside to honor and thank those who have honorably worn the uniform of the United States. No more Veterans Day. This from a guy who holds power because veterans came out in droves for him on Election Day.

The city of Rochester is FUBARed.                Today, stuttering behind a lectern, the mayor condemned a handful of city cops for backing up law enforcement officers who called for help.                It was Malik at his worst, it was progressivism at its most disgusting. In a city where the murder of a legal immigrant hasn’t elicited a response from City Hall or the Sixth Floor, the mayor and the chief have taken some 10 cops off the street because of the handcuffing of two illegal immigrants.

The governor is going to get someone killed.                Maybe an inmate, maybe a young National Guardsman, maybe a parole officer or prison guard.                Unless she cleans up her mess soon, someone is going to die.                And we’ll be lucky if it’s just one.                Because she is about a dozen pissed off inmates away from this being September 1971 all over again.

Upstate New York is poor and powerless. Those of us who live here have little money and no voice. Some days we don’t even have hope.                But this week we’ve been reminded that sometimes David can beat Goliath, that sometimes the little man can stand up and make the mighty tremble.                We learned that from some guys by a burn barrel.                Dozens of burn barrels, actually, across the road from some 30 New York prisons.
