Portland has rarely seen the type of extended heat wave expected to descend on the region beginning Thursday. Forecasters at the National Weather Service are projecting at least seven consecutive days with temperatures of 90 degrees or higher. That’s happened only seven times since record keeping began at Portland International Airport back in 1938. What’s more, the latest heat wave is expected to include at least three days of temperatures reaching triple digits.
