ABILENE, Texas (BCH Sports) – The Hamlin Pied Pipers fell 9-6 to the Gordon Longhorns in Game Two of the UIL Baseball Class A State Semifinal. Gordon won the series 2-0. The Longhorns scored two runs in the bottom of the first; however, Hamlin responded with a five-run second inning. A two-RBI hit by pitcher Isaiah Hutchings ignited the rally. However, the Longhorns bounced back, outscoring the Pipers 6-1 the rest of the way.

BALLINGER, Texas (BCH Sports) – Ballinger Head Coach Ty Lang has left the Bearcats after four seasons to join the Stephenville High School coaching staff. Last season, Lang led the Bearcats to the playoffs after going 6-25 in his first three seasons. He left an impact, and now he’ll join a storied program as he looks to bring more success to Stephenville.

BALLINGER, Texas (BCH Sports) – De Leon High School has announced that they hired Brennan Whitaker as their new Athletic Director and Head Football Coach. Whitaker has prior experience coaching at Tioga, Hamilton, Southlake Carroll, and most recently Birdville, where he served as the Offensive Coordinator. He takes on a De Leon program that has gone 7-5 and made the playoffs in back to back years.

EARLY, Texas (BCH Sports) – Winters has hired Ryan Pannell as their new Head Coach and Athletic Director. Pannell has been on the Sonora staff as an assistant over the last two seasons, and will take over for Matt McCarty, who served for ten seasons. He’ll look to lead the Blizzards back to the playoffs for the first time since 2020.

ROUND ROCK, Texas (BCH Sports) – The McMurry War Hawks were defeated by the Concordia Tornados in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship Elimination Game in ten innings by a score of 11-7. It was an exciting back and forth affair, until Concordia appeared to be in full control when they grabbed a 7-3 lead in the 7th inning. All hope seemed lost as the War Hawks were down to their last strike, but Michael Smosna came through with a game-tying base hit.

The Hardin-Simmons Cowboys and the McMurry War Hawks are still dancing in their respective brackets, with both teams punching a ticket to the Sweet 16!On Saturday, the HSU Men’s Basketball team defeated the St. Thomas Celts by a score of 74-72, taking down the 1-seed on their home court.

A season for the ages coming to a close on a missed game winning shot…Fortunately for the War Hawks, the basketball gods have given them a second chance…McMurry earned an at large bid for the NCAA tournament, their first time in the dance since 2008.

HSU was 4-9 in the middle of a tournament in Las Vegas when all of a sudden they banded together, ran through their slate of conference opponents, and finished the season as American Southwest Conference Champions. HSU Men’s Basketball Player Will Bartoszek said, “I haven’t been able to do this in the five years I’ve been here, so it’s super exciting.
