ABILENE, Texas (BCH Sports) – The Wylie Lady Bulldogs responded to their loss on Tuesday night with a run rule victory over Wichita Falls Memorial in six innings, 12-2. The Lady Bulldogs took the lead in against the Lady Mavs with a run in the second inning and the third innings. Memorial came back to tie that game up with a pair of runs in the fifth inning. Wylie took command of the game in the bottom of the fifth.

ABILENE, Texas (BCH Sports) – The Wylie Bulldogs struck early in the third and final Southtown Showdown of the regular season on Thursday night to win the season series with the Cooper Cougars. Wylie beat Cooper, 5-1. The Bulldogs pushed three runs across to start the game in the top of the first inning. Cooper battled to cut the lead to 3-1 with a run of their own in the bottom of the first inning. That was the end of the scoring until the sixth inning.

Eastland’s job is open after the departure of Bobby Schuman to Cross Plains to be an assistant to Jared Sanderson. Schuman was the head football coach for the Mavericks for just two seasons, and they were just 7-14 in those season with a playoff appearance in 2024.

TUSCOLA, Texas (BCH Sports) – The Cooley era is over on the basketball courts at Jim Ned High School. Lady Indians head coach Hunter Cooley is stepping down. His retirement from coaching ends Cooley’s second stint as a basketball coach at Jim Ned. This time around, Cooley coached the Lady Indians from 2012-2025. He made Jim Ned a regional tournament regular, and he led the Lady Indians to a state runner up finish during the 2025 season.

Austin Cummins delivered for the Cougars in the first inning. His triple brought in a pair of runs to give Cooper the advantage, 2-0. It stayed that way until the bottom of the 4th inning. ANSON, Texas (BCH Sports) – Another head football coach is leaving the Big Country. Anson’s Cory McCombs is leaving the Tigers after just three seasons as the head coach and athletic director. McCombs won 15 games and lost 18 games in those three seasons. His best year came in 2024. He led the Tigers to an 8-4 record and a bi-district championship. The playoff victory was Anson’s first since the 2020 season. The Anson job is open.
James Washington leads 13 added to Big Country Athletic Hall of Fame

ABILENE, Texas (BCH Sports) – James Washington led a group of 13 inducted into the Big Country Athletic Hall of Fame on Monday at the Abilene Convention Center. Washington played high school football in Stamford. He helped lead the Bulldogs to back to back state championships and back to back to back appearances in the state championship game. He went on to win the Biletnikoff Award as the national best collegiate receiver in 2017 as a member of the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
