ABILENE, Texas (BCH Sports) – The Hardin-Simmons Cowgirls scheduled an early senior day, which resulted in back-to-back wins over the University of St. Thomas. Game one ended with a 2-0 victory. Ava Dennis hit an RBI single in the first, Jazlynn Cantu hit an RBI double in the fourth, and pitcher Gabby Montanez threw a complete-game shutout. Game two was more challenging. An Emily Jacobs RBI double gave the Cowgirls a 1-0 lead in the second inning.

In Friday’s doubleheader, senior pitcher Lina Russo threw a no-hitter in a 6-0 victory in Game 1, followed by a complete-game 1-0 shutout win in Game 2. It was the program’s first no-hitter since February 2020, and Russo’s third in her collegiate career.

NEW YORK CITY, New York (BCH Sports) – The Hardin-Simmons Cowboys fell 59-91 to the top-ranked New York University Violets in the NCAA Division III Men’s Sweet 16 round. The Violets had an explosive first half, shooting 53% from the field and 8-of-19 from three-point range. The Cowboys were 0-of-10 from beyond the arc during the same stretch but improved in the second half, shooting 40%.

The War Hawks put up an incredible fight against a top-ranked team in the country, going into the halftime break tied up at 31. Ultimately, the Gusties asserted themselves with their larger size and impressive shooting.
