One person is dead and 10 others are injured after a boat they were on crashed into the rocks of the Alamitos Bay jetty Wednesday night, according to the Long Beach Fire Department. Authorities said a 48-foot pleasure boat, which had 11 people aboard, may have been speeding when it crashed into the rocks around 9:21 p.m.One person was pronounced dead at the scene, LBFD Capt. Jake Heflin said. He was only identified by authorities as a man between 40 to 50 years old.

I’m guessing you won’t have to scroll too far down into the comment section of this post to see the first “Don’t live by an airport if you don’t like the noise” response. It’s true, living by Long Beach Airport comes with some drawbacks, notably the sounds of airplanes taking off and landing (the thing airports are designed for). But it also comes with a much more affordable cab ride compared to traveling out of LAX.

Los Angeles County Metro is moving forward with the creation of its in-house police agency after years of ongoing complaints about safety on its train and bus network and frustration with the law enforcement agencies it has paid since 2017 to keep the network safe. Directors voted 10-0 Thursday to support the creation of the agency's own police force.

Oil — 2 min read New restrictions on oil and gas operations near sensitive areas such as homes, schools and hospitals will take effect in January, now that a ballot measure to block the restrictions has been withdrawn from the November ballot. That could speed up Long Beach’s plans to phase out oil operations by 2035, and it could punch a hole in the city’s future budgets.
