November 22, 2024 By Aniela Shauck, Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture Shafkatbin Jafar, a Washington State University graduate student, has been awarded the Airport Cooperative Research Program graduate research award. He is thought to be the first-ever WSU recipient of the prestigious award from the Transportation Research Board of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and one of only about 12 recipients nationwide.

Life is a game — or at least, most of our decisions can be understood as interactions with other players, from individuals to firms and governments. Washington State University economists Ana Espinola-Arredondo and Felix Munoz-Garcia have published a student-focused introductory textbook on game theory, which helps readers understand how people make choices while anticipating the decisions of others. “Game theory is everywhere,” Espinola-Arredondo said.

Scott Crump, co-founder of the 3D printing company, Stratasys, will speak on “Inventing the first 3D printer — Adventures in Disruption” on Friday, Feb. 2, 1:10 p.m. in ETRL 101 on the WSU Pullman Campus. The number of Washington State University students requesting accommodation for disabilities is about 25% higher this fall compared with a year ago. Most of the requested accommodations are for what student-support specialists call “invisible disabilities,” such as anxiety and depression. That should come as no surprise. College students’ mental health was worsening even before the pandemic and the American Psychological Association said students were “in crisis” by 2021.
