Edgewater police officer Daniel Rippeon, who made a controversial arrest of a CVS worker in early May, resigned his position with the police department, according to city officials. Body cam video on Paul Wert's arrest shows Rippeon asking the CVS worker for identification while Wert says he has not broken any laws. Edgewater Mayor Diezel DePew said he was “sorry to see what occurred during that incident," and that we was "upset" with the way it was handled.

An Ormond Beach resident says the city acted on an anonymous complaint to issue a stop-work order for his home improvement project. Jimmy Clark is arguing that the city violated Section 162.06 of the Florida Statute, which prohibits municipal code enforcement officials from initiating enforcement proceedings based on an anonymous complaint.

Jeff Thurman was reassigned as interim Public Works director, saying the move "would take a lot of pressure" off of him. Capt. Charles Geiger will serve as interim chief of police. A split Edgewater City Council June 2 voted 3-2 to reassign Interim City Manager Jeff Thurman to his previous post at the city’s Public Works Department. Mayor Diezel DePew and Councilmembers Charlotte Gillis and Eric Rainbird voted in favor of the move, while Councilmembers Mike Thomas and Debbie Dolbow opposed.
