After a very brief internal affairs investigation, the officer who made a controversial arrest of a CVS worker shortly after he left work has been fired. "Daniel Rippeon has been separated as an employee of the Edgewater Police Department," the department said in a one-line Facebook post on June 5, Thursday evening. Rippeon arrested Paul Wert, 22, on May 10 while he was sitting on a bench outside a closed CVS on Ridgewood Avenue in Edgewater.

An Aberdeen community project has been awarded a £1,000 grant by Asda’s charity, the Asda Foundation, to celebrate a decade working with people impacted by dementia. The Living Well Project, which was established in 2010 to support isolated and vulnerable people in the north of the city, launched its Living Well Dementia Cafes five years later, providing much-needed social support for those affected by memory loss and dementia, as well as their families and carers.

A special tribute concert honoring the late rock and roll guitarist and former Margaritaville resident Rick Derringer is being planned for Aug. 5 in Daytona Beach, according to the musician's widow, Jenda. Jenda Derringer said in a phone interview with the News-Journal on Saturday that she wants the event to be held at the Peabody Auditorium in Daytona Beach. "This is for his 78th birthday. He slipped away so unexpectedly," she said.

A supermarket worker has been praised for her kindness after solving the dilemma of a customer by helping her respond to a text from her soldier son who was serving overseas with the army. Katie Gordon, who has worked at Asda Arbroath for four years, wasworking in the customer services department when she saw an elderly woman in the queue. Noticing she appeared to be anxious, 22-year-old Katie approached the customer and asked if everything was alright.
