An 11-year-old Deltona Lakes Elementary school boy was arrested - quietly - for sending threats to a girl who stopped answering his text messages, according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office. The incident occurred April 30. The girl's mother, who is a teacher, reported the threat though Fortify Florida, the arrest report shows. Fortify Florida is an online tool that can be used to report suspicious activity to authorities.

A Daytona man, who had the First Step Homeless Shelter listed as his last known address, was arrested for robbing a credit union on Monday where he threatened to shoot everyone if he didn't get any money, Daytona Beach police said. Jacob Callinan, 24, was charged with robbery and was in the Volusia County Branch Jail Wednesday on $25,000 bail.

Operation Tidal Wave, a joint federal-state operation that resulted in 1,120 arrests in Florida, swept up a resident of Holly Hill, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Ciro Ramon Castaneda Perez, 47, "a criminal illegal alien from Venezuela, and known member of the violent gang Tren de Aragua" was arrested at his residence, ICE said. The operation took place from April 21 to April 26.

DELAND - Defense attorneys presented testimony from sympathetic witnesses on Thursday in an attempt to get Jerone Hunter off death row for massacring six young people with bats and knives in a home in 2004. "Jerone was the quietest person, very quiet," testified Alison Neidu, in whose Deltona home Jerome lived for a month. Hunter, 38, and Troy Victorino, 48, are back in court 19 years after they were sentenced to death.
