A man at New Smyrna Beach was struck by lightning Friday, June 20, at around 12:27 p.m., and was in cardiac arrest and unresponsive, according to immediate reports from rescue personnel. Volusia County Beach Ocean Rescue Director Tamara Malphurs said the incident occurred in the 4000 block of Atlantic Avenue. CPR was initiated. There were few details available Friday afternoon, but emergency dispatchers said the incident occurred just south of 29th Avenue.

A submachine pistol-waving Uber Eats driver was arrested in a road rage incident in Deltona, where he threatened another motorist at a McDonald's with the firearm, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office said. Michael Ortiz, 28, was jailed on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful carry of a concealed firearm. On Wednesday, June 18, Volusia County Branch Jail records show he is free on $5,000 bail.

Two undocumented immigrants were arrested for stealing used cooking oil from disposal units outside closed DeLand restaurants, police said. Moises Humberto Gonzalez Murillo, 30, and Ramiro Jose Gutierrez Lima, 38, Nicaraguan nationals, were arrested outside Garcia's Mexican Grill at 3:51 a.m. Monday June 16, DeLand police said. Both men were charged with grand theft each. They were being held without bail Tuesday June 17 and officials notified ICE of their arrests, records show.

A Kentucky man who raped a child while staying at a campground in Port Orange was arrested Sunday June 15 and will be brought back to Volusia County to face charges, police said. According to Port Orange police, Gregory Allen Harris, 43, was arrested by Port Orange detectives with the help of Calloway County sheriff's deputies in Murray, Kentucky, on Sunday June 15.
