BOSTON — It’s no secret that rugby is a physical sport, and the Brookline boys rugby team was the more physically dominant squad on Thursday night. Under the blazing hot June sun at Boston University’s Nickerson Field, the Warriors (6-2) battled their way to a 35-26 win over Chelmsford en route to a D-II state championship appearance. “They ran hard at us and we just kept getting up and kept going,” Brookline coach Jarrod Dyke said.

BRAINTREE — “The story is not over,” Braintree junior Jack Goddeeris said. But Goddeeris and The Wamps’ (16-6) 2025 season ended on Monday night after suffering a heartbreaking 3-1 (20-25, 25-22, 25-23, 27-25) loss to No. 9 Acton-Boxborough in the Round of 16 of the D-I state tournament. The final score doesn’t give justice to the fight the Wamps displayed all game and all season long. No matter how many points they would go down, they would fight right back into it.

Similar to their efforts on Thursday, the Lexington squad came into Tufts on Saturday and dominated, leaving Ellis Oval with 108 total points and a state championship.

Despite notching 10 hits, the Worcester Red Sox dropped Friday night’s matchup against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 3-1, to even up the series at two games apiece. In the top of the eight inning with two outs and Nate Eaton on third, Yasmani Grandal ripped a clutch single to right field to give the WooSox (27-27) a 1-0 lead heading into the bottom of the inning. However, when Alex Hoppe took the mound, things started to fall apart for the WooSox defense.
