FORT CARSON, Colo. (KOAA) — Due to the Department of Defense's (DoD) deferred resignation programs for civilian employees, two offices on Fort Carson were forced to close on Mondays due to staffing shortages. The Transition and Retirement Services offices located in the Mountain Post Soldier Center announced they were closing on Mondays as of June 2 due to a staffing shortage, according to a notice on the MyArmyPost app.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KOAA) — The Department of Defense is directing American military departments to identify ways to cut military moves in half within the next five years. According to a May 22 memo released publicly last week, each military department has 120 days to develop a proposal for how permanent change of station (PCS) moves can be decreased by 50% by fiscal year 2030. The memo calls for a gradual PCS decrease with a 10% cut next fiscal year, 30% in FY 2028, and 40% in FY 2029.

A Government Accountability Office (GAO) report released May 29 highlighted key challenges to keeping Space Command in Colorado Springs, including facilities, communications, and personnel challenges.

UNITED STATES AIR FORCE ACADEMY — The Air Force Academy Dean of Faculty, Brigadier General Linell A. Letendre, retired last week following the Academy's Class of 2025 graduation ceremony. Her retirement has been expected–at least in Air Force Academy (USAFA) circles–since the start of the year; but it comes at a time of uncertainty at the military institution as large-scale civilian faculty cuts loom on the horizon, according to multiple reports by KOAA and our news partners at the Gazette.

AIR FORCE ACADEMY COLO. (KOAA) — Newly confirmed Air Force Secretary Dr. Troy Meink told Air Force Academy graduates Thursday they were being commissioned as officers at a time of transition for the military. Meink was the Class of 2025 commencement speaker. It was the first time many of the graduates, and much of the general public, have heard from Secretary Meink following his May 13 confirmation by the Senate in a 74-25 vote.
