Nearly a year after the town of Coventry took the disputed body of water by condemnation for $157,000, the now-former pond owners have filed a federal lawsuit against the town and town officials claiming that their action was unconstitutional and that they didn’t pay the owners nearly enough. “The taking was in bad faith,” the lawsuit filed Friday by Soscia Holdings states.

    (WJAR) — Three inmates of Native American ancestry are suing Rhode Island’s prison system, claiming their religious rights are being violated by not being allowed to participate in ceremonies and have certain items. The inmates want to be able to hold pipe ceremonies, sweat lodge ceremonies, burn sage or other herbs, hold drum circles and pow wows, and have bird feathers and medicine bags containing sacred herbs.

    (WJAR) — A second suspect in a wide ranging ATM skimmer scheme along the east coast was sentenced Thursday in federal court in Providence. The man known as Stefano Garioli, 40, will serve 27 months in prison, following hisguilty plea in December. He will also face deportation proceedings when his prison term is up. Authorities say his real name is Dumitru Bogdan Pancu, in the country illegally from Romania. A photo included in an affidavit shows two men linked to an ATM skimming scam.
