WEST WARWICK — Her tail is always moving. “It just shows the resilience of a dog,” West Warwick Police Chief Ernest Lavigne said, sitting in his office on a recent afternoon. Nearby, a 10-year-old pit bull mix lay on the floor, her tail swaying easily from side to side. “There was a dog that was clearly neglected,” Lavigne continued, “and she never stopped wagging her tail. Now, here we are.”These days, Mouse is living the life at her new forever home at the West Warwick Police Department.

COVENTRY — In a garden outside Church of the Apostles, it’s not only the land that’s been cultivated. “There have been so many great stories of connection,” Charlie St. Martin said, recalling the relationships that have formed as a result of the garden, the generosity that’s been demonstrated. Started in 2023, the Sowing Seeds Community Garden was created as a way of building community. “We wanted to reach out to our community,” Rev. Benjamin Giuffrida said of the impetus behind the garden.

WEST WARWICK — During a ceremony held recently at West Warwick High School, 18 local firefighters were recognized for having moved up the ladder. The West Warwick Fire Department’s promotional and swearing-in ceremony opened with a posting of the colors by the department’s honor guard, led down the aisles of the auditorium by Capt. Scott Perkins on the bagpipes. Kyleigh Arenas, daughter of local firefighter Carlos Arenas, sang the national anthem; Rev. Paul Lemoi delivered an invocation.

COVENTRY — This weekend, members of the Alan Shawn Feinstein Middle School Drama Club will take audiences on a journey to the past. “This is more than just a middle school play,” eighth-grader Grace Copice said over the sound of her cast mates singing “A Rumor in St. Petersburg” during a dress rehearsal on Wednesday. “We've put a lot of time and effort into it.”“Anastasia: the Musical,” the youth edition, opens tonight for a three-show run in the middle school auditorium.
