New London — A 30th sexual assault complaint was filed Tuesday against the U.S. Coast Guard, a law firm representing former Coast Guard Academy cadets announced. Sanford Heisler Sharp McKnight said it filed the latest claim under the Federal Tort Claims Act, as it had in the 29 previous cases involving former cadets it represents, including 26 women, two men and one non-binary individual. The firm filed 13 claims last September, followed by nine claims in October and seven this past March.

Ledyard — Ruling in a lawsuit filed by the State of Connecticut, a federal judge has temporarily blocked the U.S. Department of the Interior from taking two parcels of land totaling 82 acres on Indiantown Road into trust for the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe. U.S. District Judge Vernon Oliver last week in Hartford issued “a brief time-limited stay” of transfers of the land to allow the court to consider the state’s request that the transfers be delayed pending a judicial review.

Mashantucket — Wondr Nation, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe’s online gaming and entertainment company, has announced it’s collaborating with the Connecticut Science Center, the downtown Hartford museum dedicated to improving the quality of science education throughout Connecticut and New England. As Wondr Smart Labs partners, the two entities are developing STEAM-based (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) curriculum for tribal youth as well as interactive exhibits for the museum.
