Shoshana Chatfield, the U.S. representative to NATO’s Military Committee, was fired over the weekend, the Associated Press reported Monday. Chatfield served as president of the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, from 2019 to 2023 and was the first woman to lead the college.

Applications are now being accepted for the Rhode Island Press Association’s annual $1,000 scholarship competition, open to high school seniors or college students planning to pursue a career in journalism. Scholarship applicants must be residents of Rhode Island and attending or accepted to any college or university in the 2025-26 academic year, including both undergraduates and full-time graduate students. Students don’t have to be a journalism major to be eligible.
