NEW YORK — Payton Pritchard scored in many ways for the Celtics during the regular season despite his modest size. However, in his first two games this series against the Knicks, he became a bit of a one-trick pony. 14 of his 15 shot attempts were from 3-point range as Pritchard shied away from opportunities to go to the paint. In Game 3, the Sixth Man of the Year was determined to change that mindset. “Just got to maintain my aggressiveness, any chance I get,” Pritchard said.

NEW YORK — The NBA world expected the Knicks to be drawing dead before this second round series against the Celtics began. Instead, the Knicks entered Game 3 Saturday night at Madison Square Garden with a stunning 2-0 series lead behind some historically bad shooting and late-game collapses by Boston. With two days off to regroup, the Celtics knew what was at stake as they tried to dig out of a daunting 2-0 hole away from home.

NEW YORK — The Knicks offense desperately needs Karl-Anthony Towns at his best to have a chance in this series against the Celtics. That was not the case in Game 3 as Towns missed 13 of his 18 shot attempts in a 115-93 blowout loss to Boston at Madison Square Garden. That off shooting night may have been partially due to hand injury. Towns was shown grimacing on multiple occasions throughout the contest after getting his hand caught in Luke Kornet’s jersey in one sequence in the first half.

NEW YORK — The Celtics will be without sharpshooting reserve Sam Hauser for the second straight game on Saturday afternoon for their Game 3 matchup against the Knicks at Madison Square Garden. Hauser was listed originally as doubtful before tip due to a sprained right ankle, before the team declared him out. Hauser suffered the ankle injury in the third quarter of Game 1. He was a surprise DNP-CD in the first half but got the call in the third quarter to see action.
