HAZEL PARK, Mich. (WXYZ) — The Jan. 27 Hazel Park Schools Board of Education Special Meeting was about three hours and 22 minutes long. In the last 10 minutes, the board moved to put Hazel Park Superintendent Amy Kruppe, Ph.D., on paid, non-disciplinary administrative leave. The board said it was for a "fact-finding investigation of the allegations." Two months since that meeting, questions about what the allegations are remain a Hazel Park mystery.

(WXYZ) — As the bird flu continues to spread across the U.S., the Michigan Department of Natural Resources says it is widespread among wild birds in the state, with more than 300 dead wild birds found in five counties suspected of being killed by the virus. Nearly 100 of those cases happened in Washtenaw County, many of them at a public Ann Arbor park. Mary Beth Doyle Park has lots of wildlife and paved trails that nearby residents walk often.

DETROIT (WXYZ) — Dozens of community members and business owners across metro Detroit stood in solidarity Monday for a protest called "A Day Without Immigrants."Businesses from Southwest Detroit to Lincoln Park to Roseville and Melvindale remained closed for the day in an effort to show the community's impact on the local economy. The goal of the meet was to promote diversity and raise awareness for parents to enroll children into life-saving swim lessons. DETROIT (WXYZ) — A former security guard at an elementary school in Detroit is now facing charges after police say he had an inappropriate relationship with a 14-year-old student. It happened at Cornerstone Jefferson-Douglass Academy on the city’s east side back in May 2024. Trevon Ziglar, 24, was not charged until Sunday, Jan. 12, 2025. It's unclear why charges were not rendered earlier. Ziglar was arraigned this weekend on two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct.
