Increasing education funding has been a massive back and forth between the Alaska Legislature and Gov. Dunleavy. The Legislature approved three bills in the last two years to increase the formula, all of which were vetoed.

    Twenty Alaska high school students were part of a mass panic at the National Speech and Debate Association's tournament in Des Moines, Iowa on June 19. No major injuries were reported by the association, but at least two Alaska teenagers have minor ones. A Kodiak teen has a bruised knee after she and a chaperone were trampled during the evacuation according to Kodiak’s coach, Jared Griffin. Another kid from Anchorage also has a few bruises after helping them in the rush.

National organizers estimated that over five million protesters showed up to "No Kings" rallies, planned to coincide with a parade in Washington, D.C. celebrating 250 years of the United States Army and President Donald Trump’s birthday.

    A puppy at Kodiak’s sole animal shelter tested positive for parvovirus – a deadly disease for dogs. The shelter is now closed until further notice, according to its Facebook post. This is the second time this year the shelter has caught a case of the disease – it was closed for about a week in late February and early March. Another dog outside of the shelter tested positive for the disease around the same time. It’s unknown how any of the dogs contracted the disease.
